monochrome glasses

kori haubrich

you see the world through rose-colored glasses

squinting into the twilight
an overcast of cosmos unknown
false interpretation of conceptualized pigments
i have yet to see the universe for myself

my lenses resemble a 1920's film
or the eyes of a trusted canine
a variant of blacks, whites, and greys
desperate wonder for blinding, agonizing color

(how do you see the world through rose-colored glasses)

where is the sunshine in my black and white universe?
how do i find a rainbow?
is my outlook of reality distorted, is yours?
or are my contacts a defect in the system?

(why do you see the world through rose-colored glasses)

some say a rose tiny adds artificial optimism
to an unapologetic and cruel society

i call it enviable

(you see the world through rose colored glasses, but)

when i'm looking at the world,
through my permanent monochrome glasses,
the deepest of blues is
really
just
black.
