Class Sessions Available Class Sessions Available 1/31-2/2, 2/21-23, 4/3-5. The current plan has all meetings simulcast online via Elluminate (Blackboard Collaborate) and recorded via Elluminate. The Friday meetings 5:30-8:30 p.m. PST/PDT, the Saturday meetings 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. PST/PDT, and the Sunday meetings 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. PST/PDT will be held live @ HU Toppenish Campus, 1111 Petrie Bldg., unless otherwise notified. All sessions will be supplemented via the Internet with Class Forums on Heritage University Virtual Campus (AKA MyHeritage).

Option I: Attend class sessions and complete supplemental materials on MyHeritage.

Option II: Internet Only (requires additional supplemental materials and work on MyHeritage and Elluminate to replace class sessions). There may be additional sessions available online on TBA PST/PDT or by appointment. These sessions will be recorded for later playback if you cannot attend but want more information.

Option III: Attend SOME class sessions and complete supplemental materials on MyHeritage to replace class sessions missed.

Online Students

1. Class Sessions Available 1/31-2/2, 2/21-23, 4/3-5. Online students have the option of attending "live" online whenever they wish. The current plan has all meetings simulcast online via Elluminate (Blackboard Collaborate) and recorded via Elluminate. The Friday meetings 5:30-8:30 p.m. PST/PDT, the Saturday meetings 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. PST/PDT, and the Sunday meetings 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. PST/PDT will be held live @ HU Toppenish Campus, 1111 Petrie Bldg, unless otherwise notified. All sessions will be supplemented via the Internet with Class Forums on Heritage University Virtual Campus (AKA MyHeritage).

2. Class will have weekly office hours available via Elluminate, tentatively W 6-8 pm PST/PDT and F 130-3 pm PST/PDT.

3. Dr. Schmidt will cover the reading materials and answer questions in the initial sessions. In the later sessions, students will present lessonss and share their research. Sessions will be recorded for later playback for students who cannot attend at that time. SESSIONS FROM PREVIOUS TERMS ALREADY AVAILABLE FOR THOSE ON AN 8-WEEK SCHEDULE.

4. Online students MUST use a headset if possible when attending Elluminate sessions to avoid feedback or just TYPE instead of SPEAKING. Cheap headsets work just fine; webcam not required.

Required Resource for All Students: Oxford English Dictionary online (contact HU Library or Dr. Schmidt for log-in information).

Supplementary Texts:

Selected Readings from Christina Bratt Paulston and G. Richard Tucker, Sociolinguistics: The Essential Readings (Oxford: Blackwell, 2003) and other texts. Those readings will be provided on MyHeritage.
