Elements of Assessment:

The following assignments will be factored into your course grade. In addition, these will also help assess your progress in mastering the outcomes noted above.

(1) Class Participation (including Chapter Presentation) and Exercises: The nature of this class demands that all students contribute regularly to the discussions. Both quality and quantity will be considered, with an emphasis on the former. In addition, students may take part in sociolinguistics experiments; if so, they will be responsible for reporting the data from those experiments. Due: Day-to-day. 15 points possible.

(2) Designing Forum Questions: Students will form small groups. Each group will select a reading from our sociolinguistics text and be responsible for designing a reflective Forum question for that reading. Due: See Schedule. 5 points possible.

(3) Answering Forum Questions: Students will complete a number of individual posts in the on-line Forum responding to the reading reflections in (2) above. Due July 26. 30 points possible.

(4) Total Points = 50 possible. Course Total Points = 150. The remaining 100 points are assigned by Dr. Gottlieb.
