Jan. 22: Introduction to Course. CLAD Chap. 1. L1 Language Acquisition. Relation to L2 Language Acquisition.SC: Preface. What Is Sentence Combining, and Why Should You Know about It?

Jan. 23: CLAD Chaps. 2 and 7. Introduction to Linguistics--Phonology, Morphology, and Syntax. Students who have taken ENG 330 or an equivalent Introduction to Linguistics course may work independently during the morning or attend for review. Introduction to the Longitudinal Research Project. Introduction to Journal Article Review. SC: Units 1, 2, and 3.

Jan. 24: CLAD Chaps. 3 and 4. Theories of Language. AMLT Preface. Relation of Language Theory to Teaching Practice. Introduction to Seminar Leader Assignment. The History of Language Teaching. AMLT Chaps. 1 and 2. SC: Units 4, 5, and 6. Find Articles for Journal Article Review.

Weekend #2:

Feb. 26: CLAD Chaps. 6 and 10. SC: Units 7, 8, and 9 as time permits. Longitudinal Research Project Checkup. Exercise: Learning to See Patterns in Linguistic Data.

Feb. 27: Longitudinal Research Project Checkup: Simple Sentence Trees. SC: Units 7, 8, and 9, cont. Early Methods and the Shift from FLL to ELL. AMLT Chaps. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (Student-Led), Note: Online students may arrange to present their lessons during the Friday session or through other means.

Feb. 28: Draft of Paper #1 (Journal Article Review) for Workshop. The Evolution of Modern Methods of Language Teaching. Begin AMLT Chaps. 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 (Student-Led). Note: Online students may present their lessons during the Friday session or make other arrangements.

Weekend #3:

Mar. 18: Content-Area Integration with Language Teaching. CLAD Chap. 5. SC: Units 10, 11, and 12.

Mar. 19: Paper #1 Due. SC: Units 13 and 14. The Evolution of Modern Methods of Language Teaching, cont. Finish AMLT Chaps. 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 (Student-Led) as needed. Current Integrated Approach to Language Teaching. AMLT Chap. 19 (Schmidt). Note: Online students may present their lessons during the Friday session.

Mar. 20: Final SC Reviews. Longitudinal Research Sharing. CLAD Chap. 11. Sum Up Course. What You Should Remember for ENG/LA 5-12 NES.

AFTER Weekend #3:

Sometime in Apr. TBA: ONLINE SESSION. Longitudinal Research Sharing by Online Students (or those who want more time to finish).

Online Office Hours tentatively W 6-8 pm PST/PDT: Attend if you have questions about your draft of the Longitudinal Research Paper.

Apr. 22: Last Chance to Finish SC Reviews!

Apr. 29: Final Draft of Longitudinal Research Paper Due.
