Course Description and Objectives:

Principles of reasoning, criteria for validity, interrelation and sequence of facts/events: judicious evaluation of methods, policies and intentions. Case studies in government, health, education, business. Principles of argumentation in discourse as seen through analysis of texts; critique of sample arguments.

Logic and Critical Reasoning will improve your ability to recognize, analyze, and evaluate the underlying arguments in both rational discourse and everyday occurrences such as advertising and politics. By the end of the term, you will be better able to tell when someone is trying to sway you with invalid or weak arguments and your own skills of argumentation and persuasion should improve.
